Stanford, Calif. - Andrew Stover highlighted the UIC men's gymnastics team by qualifying for the all-around finals at the first qualifier of the 2008 National Collegiate Men's Gymnastics Championships on Thursday afternoon.

Stover placed third in the all-around competition and earned the final qualifying spot with a combined score of 84.15. Stover also tied for 11th on the high bar (14.30) and placed 15th overall on the parallel bars with a season-best 14.30.

Neal Thompson showed well in his first NCAA championship. The freshman placed fourth in the all-around behind Stover with a final tally of 83.60. Thompson also finished 11th overall on the pommel horse with a 13.95.

Anthony May rounded out the UIC all-around contenders, finishing in seventh with an 82.40.

Pommel horse specialist David Mohr performed well in his NCAA debut, placing in the Top 20 earning a 13.50.

Nikolai Korepanov finished out the season strongly on the still rings, placing 26th with a 14.20.

Other notable performances for the Flames included Top 35 finishes by Ben Sinor on the floor exercise (13.65), Alex Kadar on the still rings (13.70), Bobby Solomon on the vault (15.20), Jeffrey Bill on the vault (15.05), and Nick Persino on the high bar (13.30).

Stover will compete in the national all-around finals on Friday night beginning at 7 p.m.
