Chicago, Ill.- UIC center fielder Steve McGuiggan (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley H.S.) continues to receive accolades for his sparkling rookie campaign, this time earning a selection to the 2008 Ping!Baseball All-Freshman Second Team.

McGuiggan hit .370 (85-for-230) with three homers, 10 doubles, five triples, 14 stolen bases and 40 RBI during his inaugural go-around with the Flames. He served as UIC's leadoff man while manning center and helped the Flames earn Horizon League regular season and tournament titles and an NCAA Regional berth.

In addition to his nod on Ping!Baseball's All-Freshman Team, McGuiggan was also selected to the 2008 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. He was also named to the 2008 All-Horizon League Second Team and the 2008 Horizon League All-Newcomer Team.
